How to get what you want… in an adult kind of way

How to get what you want… in an adult kind of way

June 18, 2021 Posted by cindyandsusan

Why is getting a paying job in the world of hospice massage sometimes difficult?

Even as more and more massage therapists are recognized and included on staff, some of us struggle to be paid for the work we love.

There are a few reasons:

    • At present, massage is not covered my many insurance companies or Medicare. This means the agency must value our service enough to pay for it directly. Since our services are not reimbursed, many agencies struggle to justify the expense.

    • There is a lack of education on the part of many doctors, nurses and those making the decisions at the agencies.

What’s a skilled massage therapist to do?

Be Prepared

Continue honing your skills and practicing them so that when the call comes, you’re ready. Maybe a refresher course is in order. Network with other therapists who are doing the work to get insight on their success.

Be Persistent

Don’t give up. You know the old saying, “the squeeky wheel gets oiled first”.

Be Patient

Yes, patience is a virtue.  If it’s truly your heart’s desire, stay focused and wait. Yes, it’s easier to give up, but don’t!

On the other hand, there are agencies and medical personnel who value the work of massage therapists and have found funding through grants or other means. There are numerous therapists educating their communities and medical facilities through presentations and workshops.

But most important… there are many patients receiving compassionate, gentle-touch massage in home and care facilities because their therapist didn’t give up.

Be Prepared

Be Persistent

Be Patient
