Cindy Spence has been a massage therapist specializing in oncology and hospice care since 1999, after her father-in-law’s dying wish for gentle touch inspired her to attend massage school. A pancreatic cancer survivor for many years, she believes in the power of choice and the pursuit of optimal wellbeing at all phases of life, particularly during serious illness and the dying process.
Cindy’s training includes a master’s degree in public health, multiple continuing education courses from MD Anderson Cancer Center, and certification in the Vodder technique of Manual Lymphatic Drainage. She is a member of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) and the National End-of-Life Doula Alliance (NEDA).
Cindy has worked for numerous hospice agencies in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, providing home-based massage services to thousands of patients across seven counties. She has extensive experience caring for people with complex medical needs in the hospice inpatient setting and currently works for Heart to Heart Hospice in Dallas.
Cindy received the Irene Smith Palliative Care Award from the Society for Oncology Massage in 2023 and is the author of Palliative Touch: Massage for People at the End of Life, available at Singing Dragon and Amazon. She provides education and resources for touch therapists in end-of-life care at Final Touch Training, created with her dear friend and colleague, Susan Gee. In her spare time, find Cindy on Galveston Island with her spouse David and pup Luna.
